Merced Heights & Ingleside Neighborhood Basics:
The Ingleside neighborhood is bordered along the north by Geneva/Ocean Ave, I-280 to the east, Lakeview to the south and Ashton to the west. Merced Heights is immediately to the west of Ingleside, and is bordered by Holloway on the north, Junipero Serra to the west, and Shields to the south.
Housing Stock and Style:
Homes in both Ingleside and Merced Heights tend to be single family homes on lots that are 25′ wide. While the neighborhood name for Ingleside doesn’t suggest it, some homes in both neighborhoods have great views back to downtown and the San Francisco Bay. You’ll find an eclectic collection of homes, and there are also smaller condo buildings in the neighborhoods although they tend to be the exception to the single family rule.
Medium to Medium-High. Ocean Ave is the main commercial corridor that serves both Ingleside and Merced Heights. The most recent Whole Foods to open in San Francisco was along Ocean Ave, and the street contains plenty of neighborhood restaurants and shops. It reminds me a bit of Mission St., but you might find that reference helpful or not.
Excellent. If you are in Ingleside, you’ll discover that the Balboa Park BART and Muni light rail stations are within a short walking distance. Being further to the west, the walk from Merced Heights takes a big longer but is certainly do-able. In addition, muni buses and light-rail run along Ocean Ave., giving you numerous options to get to downtown San Francisco. If your commute takes you to the south bay (Silicon Valley), you’ll find I-280 is just moments away.
